AI Will Not Replace Chartered Accountants, But Will Transform Their Roles by Reducing their Clerical Burden

There is an increasing concern in the profession that Artificial Intelligence (AI) will displace traditional roles, particularly in the finance area. The reality is AI will not displace Chartered Accountants but potentially relieve them of some clerical burden as well as repetitive tasks to focus on higher-level analysis and decision-making.

A Chartered Accountant, CA Pratibha Goyal, shared on her Twitter handle how they are using AI to make processes more efficient and timely:

  • Sending Fees Reminders to Clients: AI allows for reminders to be automated, giving the business the opportunity to be paid on time without having to follow up manually.
  • Compliance Reminders: AI is used to send automated reminders for TDS, GST Returns, TDS, and Income Tax Returns, helping clients stay compliant.
  • MSME Reminders: Timely reminders related to MSME obligations are now handled by AI systems.
  • GSTR-2B and 3B Reconciliation: What was once a time-consuming task is now handled faster and more accurately with AI tools.
  • MSME Payment Compliance: AI helps in keeping track of MSME payment timelines and compliance, reducing manual tracking.
  • Creating ITR Sets: AI assists in preparing complete ITR sets—including the return, computation, and acknowledgment, and sending them to clients efficiently.

All these tasks used to take up a significant amount of time and effort. Now, AI has simplified them, reducing the routine workload of CAs.

AI is a tool, not a threat. It exists to support professionals, not replace them. The human mind is god‑created, full of intelligence, judgment and experience, qualities no machine can replicate or replace.
