Bhopal Raids Expose Retired PWD Engineer GP Mehra’s Crore-Rupee Assets
The Lokayukta team conducted raids at four premises belonging to retired Public Works Department (PWD) engineer-in-chief GP Mehra in Bhopal, uncovering alleged disproportionate assets worth crores.
The searches covered residential and business properties, gathering evidence of significant cash holdings, luxury cars, jewellery and investment documents tied to Mehra and his family members.
During investigations the team found the following from Mehra’s Bhopal residence:
- Rs 8 lakh (approx.) in cash
- Jewellery valued at Rs 50 lakh
- Fixed Deposits worth Rs 56 lakh
- Property documents totalling Rs 55 lakh and
- Expensive furniture.
During the operation the officials also reported the seizure of luxury household items.
Further checks at another apartment in Bhopal led to the recovery of around Rs 25 lakh in cash, nearly 2.5 kg of gold, and 5 kg of silver.
Lokayukta sources said that these assets were on top of what was already found at Mehra’s main home, showing how big the investigation is.
Among the assets checked, Lokayukta officers found that Mehra’s family had a partnership in a pipe factory in Govindpura, Bhopal. This was another source of income and investment for the family.
The Lokayukta also conducted investigations in Sohagpur properties, Narmadapuram, where they reported finding a farmhouse, an under-construction resort, a cowshed, a fish farming pond, six tractors, other agricultural equipment and several kilograms of honey.
