Government Notification on Tax Exemption for Puducherry Planning Authority

The Ministry of Finance, Department of Revenue (Central Board of Direct Taxes), published a notification on June 17, 2025.

According to this notification, the Central Government, using the powers given to it under the Income-tax Act, 1961, has notified the “Puducherry Planning Authority” (PAN: AAAAP3523E) as an eligible authority under section 10(46A)(b) of the Income-tax Act.

The Puducherry Planning Authority is formed under the Pondicherry Town and Country Planning Act, 1969 (Act No. 13 of 1970). The notification confirms that this authority is recognized for the purposes mentioned in the Act.

This notification is applicable from the assessment year 2024-25. However, it is subject to the condition that the Puducherry Planning Authority continues to be constituted under the same Act and continues to serve one or more of the purposes specified in section 10(46A)(a) of the Income-tax Act.
