GST Blow to Alkem Laboratories: Rs. 35.44 Crore Tax Demand Issued for excessive availment of ITC
Alkem Laboratories Limited, a pharmaceutical company listed on both BSE and NSE stock exchanges in India, has disclosed that it has received a large order from GST authorities regarding tax demands for payment of the amount of GST for the period July 2017 to March 2020. The order was passed by the Commissioner (Appeals), Central Goods & Services Tax Appeals Commissionerate, Ludhiana, Punjab. The company received this order on 13th June 2025. The order confirms a GST demand of Rs 16,923,721 along with an interest and penalty of Rs 18,521,040, making the total demand Rs 35,444,761.
The order mainly alleges that the company has taken excessive availment of Input Tax Credit during the specified period. The demands are made under the applicable provisions of

Alkem Laboratories has clearly stated that it does not agree with the demand order and will challenge the same.
