ICAI Introduces Stricter Transparency Rules for Internationally Affiliated Audit Firms

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has introduced stricter rules for audit firms that are part of international networks. The new norms require large firms to follow stricter compliance standards, improve transparency, and clearly define their relationships with global partners.

The aim is to increase transparency and make sure Indian firms become stronger and more independent.

Under the new rules, Indian audit firms are allowed to work with international networks. However, they must officially register these partnerships, designate a nodal officer to make sure they follow the rules, share more detailed information about their arrangements, and make sure any business dealings between related firms are done fairly and at proper market prices.

These changes have raised concerns among major audit and consulting firms, including the Big Four, because the additional reporting and structural requirements could affect how they operate and manage their international partnerships.

According to experts, new rules mean that regulators want to monitor international partnerships in India’s audit sector more closely and have stricter control over how they operate.
