Income Tax Joint Commissioner Suspended for Assaulting Junior Officer

Yogendra Kumar Mishra, a Joint Commissioner of the Income Tax Department, was suspended on Wednesday, June 4, 2025. This happened six days after he was accused of assaulting a junior officer at the Income Tax office in Lucknow. According to the suspension order, a criminal case is being investigated against Mr. Mishra. He is a 2014-batch officer of the Indian Revenue Service (IRS) and is working as the Joint Commissioner of Income Tax in Kashipur, Uttarakhand.

The officer was suspended as accusations were made by Gaurav Garg, a 2016-batch IRS officer. Garg, who is posted in Lucknow as Deputy Commissioner, accused Mr. Mishra of attacking him during a closed-door departmental meeting on May 29, which was attended by senior officials. After the alleged attack, Mr. Garg was seen going for medical treatment.

The officer has now been placed under the authority of the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (CCA) for the West Bengal and Sikkim Region while the investigation is ongoing. He has also been told that he cannot leave the headquarters without getting permission first. A case has been filed against Yogendra Kumar Mishra at the Hazratganj police station under many Sections of the BNS.
