IRS Officer and Two GST Superintendents Arrested in Rs 1.5 Crore Bribery Case in Jhansi
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested four persons, including an IRS-C&IT Officer and two GST superintendents, in a case involving major bribery at the Central Goods and Services Tax office in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh.
The arrest was made after the CBI registered a case against the Deputy Commissioner (IRS-C&IT 2016), two GST Superintendents, an advocate, and owners of private companies. The accused allegedly demanded Rs 1.5 crore for favouring the private firms in GST evasion cases.
The CBI had conducted a major operation on December 30, 2025, where the officials laid a trap and caught two superintendents red-handed while accepting Rs 70 lakh in bribe money on behalf of the Deputy Commissioner. All four accused were arrested by the CBI. The accused will be produced before the jurisdictional court after the medical checkups.
The investigations at their locations also uncovered Rs 90 lakh in cash, property documents, and huge jewellery bullion. While the investigation is still ongoing, the total cash recovered as of now stands at Rs 1.60 crore.
