IT Department Conducts Raids Over Suspected Disproportionate Assets in Bihar
On Thursday, the Income Tax Department carried out raids at the homes and business places of rice traders in Gaya and Aurangabad. These raids were part of an investigation into suspected financial irregularities and Disproportionate Assets.
In Gaya, two different teams searched the houses and offices of two rice traders in the Manpur and Purani Godam areas. Officials did not share details about what they found. However, sources said the raids were related to possible financial wrongdoing and buying property with undeclared income.
During the operation, officials checked account books, transaction records, and other important documents. They also closely examined the traders’ property details. Sources said that the businessmen had gained a lot of property and wealth in a short time, which caught the attention of tax authorities.
Income Tax Officer Dhiraj Kumar said he could not comment on the matter. Kaushalendra Pratap, patron of the Central Bihar Chamber of Commerce, said that the department was only doing its duty and there was nothing wrong with the action.
In Aurangabad, the department also raided the house and business place of rice trader Vishwajeet Jaiswal. A team from Jharkhand, along with police, started the search early in the morning at his New Area residence. The operation continued until late evening.
Aurangabad Income Tax Officer Ranjit Kumar said that the raid was conducted by the Jharkhand team and that local officials did not have full details of the findings.
Sources said the department was investigating a big rice trader from Jharkhand and that Jaiswal was involved in that business. Because of this, his premises were also searched as part of the same case.
Vishwajeet Jaiswal said that it was a routine income tax survey. He added that he had given all required documents to the officials and was fully cooperating with the investigation.
