Man Arrested in Thane for Rs. 47.32 Crore GST Credit Fraud

A senior official on August 21, 2025, informed that a man has been arrested in Maharashtra (Thane District) for his alleged role in a Goods and Services Tax (GST) credit fraud worth Rs 47.32 crore. As per the release by the Thane commissionerate of Central GST, the case was investigated using internally developed intelligence and advanced data analysis tools, which declared that M/s KSM Enterprises, run by Vivek Rajesh Maurya, had fraudulently claimed and passed on ITC without any actual supply of goods or services.

Under the GST system, input tax credit (ITC) is a system that permits businesses to offset the tax they pay on their purchase against the tax they collect on outputs to prevent multiple taxation.

The CGST  officials said that an investigation at Mr Maurya’s residence led to the recovery of incriminating proof like bank passbooks, cheque books, mobile phones and other documents related to the fraudulent firms.

Mr Vivek Rajesh Maurya was arrested on August 19 and produced before a judicial magistrate, who remanded him in judicial custody for 14 days. The investigation is still in progress.
