MCA21 V3 Rollout: New AI-Driven Filing for 2025 Annual Filing of Companies

MCA21 V3 Rollout: New AI-Driven Filing for 2025 Annual Filing of Companies
Companies are required to perform their key filings, including annual returns, financial statements, and cost audit reports, from July 14, 2025, using new online forms available at the official website of the government.
The newly developed version of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs portal, i.e., MCA21, is highly technology-intensive and AI-powered. The portal is being renewed to ensure security while filing the returns and to ensure real-time verification of data entered.
According to the official announcement, there are a total of 38 key filing forms, consisting of 13 annual filing forms and six audit forms. These forms are the final set of company forms that need to be shifted to the new format. This will be the completely developed version of the MCA21 portal. The government did not want to disturb the annual return filing cycle due to technical glitches during the busy annual return filing season. Last year, these forms were kept out of the update.
India consists of more than 1.8 million firms currently active. The forms available to the companies in July provide them sufficient time to be familiar with their new format.
From the end of the financial year, firms have six months to organise their annual general meeting and one month after that to file their financial statements and 60 days to file annual returns from the AGM.
These new web-based forms replace old PDF versions. This change aims to make filing easier for companies and help the government monitor businesses more effectively.
The improved portal also helps spot financial issues and governance problems early, allowing quicker action. It can even automatically alert companies if they miss certain filing requirements.
Forms related to appointment or removal of auditors, related party transactions, corporate social responsibility, and investor complaints are also part of the 38 being updated.
Efficient Regulatory Filings
The transitions to the MCA21 portal are anticipated to bring suitable benefits to both businesses and professionals, as firms will then be offered a developed user interface, more accuracy, and enhanced data security, said an expert. The redeveloped version of the MCA21 portal (version three, or V3) permits forms to be filed online.
The expert further said, “Complete transition to the V3 portal will also help streamline compliance processes, making regulatory filings faster and more efficient.” “Once the complete integration of MCA forms is completed on one platform, it will further strengthen the regulatory ecosystem by enabling better data integration and thus helping build a more connected and responsive compliance environment.”
According to a Mint report from 1 July last year, the new forms now require two-factor authentication. This means a company document cannot be filed without the knowledge of the registered user, which helps stop fraud. The ministry has also removed the need to get approval from the Registrar of Companies (RoC) for many company filings. Now, just filing the document online and getting an acknowledgement is enough to stay compliant.
The updated system also allows RoCs to use data analytics more easily to spot any violations.
