The PIB Fact Check has put an end to the speculation around the phasing out of the Rs. 500 note by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

There were claims on social media that the RBI will discontinue the circulation of Rs. 500 notes by March 2026. However, the PIB Fact Check has clarified that the RBI has made no such announcement.

Rs. 500 notes have not been discontinued and remain legal tender.
