Tax Association demands to Extend the Last Date of ITR for FY 2023-24

The All Odisha Tax Advocates Association (AOTAA) has made a representation before Mr. Jual Oram, Hon’ble Member of Parliament to look into the smooth functioning of the portal of the Income Tax Department.

The income tax website is not working properly. It works at a turtle’s speed. Please revamp the site so that it does not break down and extend the ITR filing deadlines due to the challenges encountered.

All Odisha Tax Advocates Association (AOTAA) is an association for all the Tax Advocates practising in Odisha. AOTAA wants to bring your kind attention to several critical issues faced by taxpayers and professionals regarding the Income Tax Filing Process for the assessment year 2024-25.

The Key issues include:

  • The slow functioning of the income tax portal creates a hardship for taxpayers and professionals.
  • Difficulties accessing Form 26AS/AIS/TIS and discrepancies between figures in various statements.
  • Limited AIS/TIS portal response options to accurately capture taxpayers’ situations.
  • Delayed updates of responses in TIS after changes made in AIS.
  • Technical glitches in the e-filing portal causing continuous buffering issues.
  • Mismatches in pre-filled data in Income Tax Returns compared to Form 26AS.
  • Problems with dividend income reflection are Schedule OS for business taxpayers.
  • Error messages disrupting ITR Filing attempts.
  • Non-receipt of OTPs for authentication, leading to multiple failed filing attempts.
  • Difficulties in downloading filed ITR receipts.
  • Given these challenges and the statutory filing deadline of July 31, 2024, there are requests to:
  • Address the technical issues as a priority to ensure the smooth functioning of the Income Tax Portal.
  • Consider extending the due date for filing returns to August 31, 2024, for AY 2024-25.

We urge you to take up these matters with the Ministry of Finance and the Income Tax Department to relieve taxpayers and ensure efficient tax compliance. Timely intervention on these issues will greatly benefit millions of taxpayers nationwide.
