56th GST Council Meeting Recommendations: Key Highlights
The 56th GST Council Meeting, held in New Delhi on 3rd September 2025 in New Delhi was chaired by Union Finance Minister Smt Nirmala Sitharaman. The meeting discussed some important taxpayer-friendly changes. These changes are in alignment with the “Next-Generation GST” vision announced by PM Narendra Modi on Independence Day 2025.
Previously, there were four slabs in the GST system: 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28%. The GST Council has removed the 12% and 28% tax slabs. Therefore, now the goods and services will be taxed at 5% and 18%.
