GST Council Announces Date and Timing for its 56th Meeting

The GST Council has officially announced the date of its 56th meeting in September 2025. Read more to know all the details about the GST Council’s upcoming Meeting.

The GST Council was introduced to make recommendations on the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST). The council meets regularly to discuss and decide on various issues and changes related to GST, including decisions on tax rates, compliance rules, recommending changes to the GST system, etc. The last GST council meeting was held on December 21, 2024, in Rajasthan, where key decisions were made regarding GST rate changes to give relief to businesses.

The GST Council has issued an official notice announcing the schedule for its 56th meeting, which will be held in New Delhi on September 3 and September 4, 2025, starting from 11:00 AM on both days. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will chair the meeting. Apart from this, an officer’s Meeting will take place on September 2, 2025, from 11 A.M. The exact venue and detailed agenda will be shared soon by the GST Council Secretariat.

Recently, the Group of Members (GoM) has approved the central government’s proposal to end the current 12% and 28% tax rates and shift towards a two-slab structure of 5% and 18%. This topic will be discussed at its 56th meeting.
